Humphries turned a career-best season into a four-year $ 36 million deal with the Titans in March. Usually reliable to Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston, Humphries scored 76 out of 105 goals (72.4 percent) and dropped only three passes all year. With 5-11, 195 and a speed of 4.53, Humphries is nothing special in terms of sport, but he drives good distances and is fast enough to find space in the short areas of the field. Corey Davis is still the Titans’ top target. Delanie Walker (Knuckle) should be back for training camp in time and the team drafted AJ Brown in the second round, but Humphries’ contact virtually assures that he will be involved in one of the league’s more humble passing games.
The trusted recipient of the property signed its restricted bid for the second round in April after further increasing its production year-on-year in 2017. Humphries had bests in receptions (61) and in achieving mileage (631) last season but is increasingly facing difficulties with the chances of approaching those numbers in 2018 are not just about last season’s third-placed Chris Godwin, pledged a bigger role, but this year’s five-round player, Justin Watson, could accomplish some of Humphries’ goals. Humphries’ slot and short and interim passing skill should still give him a decent chance, but the gradual rise he’s enjoyed as a PPR asset so far in his career is likely to be at least a modest bump on the road. It doesn’t help that QB Jameis Winston starts the season with a three-game suspension.
As pleasant as Humphries was in his 2015 rookie campaign, he was better in his second season. Humphries made seven receptions greater than 20 yards in 2016, including two greater than 40, en route to 55 receptions for 622 yards and two touchdowns. The Clemson product cemented its reputation as an effective chain mover at 27 from its 55 receptions going for first descents. Humphries added 237 yards on punt returns, placing him just outside the top 10 in the NFL in that category. However, the Bucs took huge strides to improve pass-catching positions during the free agency and draft, which could certainly result in a reduction in the 82 targets Humphries saw last season.
The undesigned Clemson product was a revelation in 2015 after veteran Louis Murphy’s knee injury at the end of the season, which quarterback Jameis Winston often served as a trusted third presence throughout the campaign. Humphries turned 18 of his 27 catches in the season into first defeats and thus demonstrated impressive reliability for a rookie who first worked his way into the squad through a mini-camp tryout. The 22-year-old is certainly not a threat to the field – his longest reception is 27 meters – but showed both a knack for finding weak spots in zones and a stable pair of hands. Murphy’s aforementioned injury and season health issues for fellow Vincent Jackson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins start have opened up game time and goals for Humphries last season, but the campaign ahead may offer a lot less chance if everyone is on the top Stay field. Humphries also faces stiff competition for a replacement role, from the returning Murphy to other passport catchers like Donteea Dye and Kenny Bell. However, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound recipient is used to niche in crowded depth maps, making 127 catches for 1,097 yards in his college career, despite being future NFL stars DeAndre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins and Martavis has Bryant in the pecking order before him.
