Despite winning the Heisman Trophy 2020 Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith was faced when a key issue during this design process: its weight. After several questions from reporters on Monday, Smith revealed he weighs 170 pounds.
Smith said he plans to officially weigh in for the teams at Alabama’s Pro-Day on Tuesday, but he won’t take part in field exercises or other tests. He prefers to let his play tape speak for itself.
As one of the best prospects in the 2021 draft, Smith is expected to be a first-round election. The remaining question is how much does his thin body affect his ability to be a top 5 or top 10 choice?
“I have a feeling it won’t be any different from college. I’ve played in the SEC. I think it’s the toughest conference out there,” said Smith. “I know a lot of people who are taller than me, who have more problems than me, so I’m not worried about that at all.”

Smith would be the second lightest recipient in the first round of the draft since 1999; selected the Baltimore Ravens Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who weighed 166 pounds, with the 25th overall win in the 2019 draft. But there are some precedents: Smith has been compared to the Hall of Fame Indianapolis Colts Recipient Marvin Harrison by several design analysts including Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN and Mike Tannenbaum. Harrison weighed 181 pounds on his combine and played in the 170s.
Other successful recipients who weighed less than 175 pounds also include DeSean Jackson (169 pounds) and Isaac Bruce (173 pounds). Chad Johnson also said on Twitter that he was playing at £ 170 while discovering that Smith was better than him in college.
