Belgium 8-0 Belarus: Leandro Trossard scores twice in crushing win

Belgium have scored 12 goals in three qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup

Brighton’s Leandro Trossard and Leicester’s Dennis Praet scored their first Belgian goals in a tough qualifying win at the 2022 World Cup against Belarus.

Michy Batshuayi scored the first goal before Hans Vanaken’s volley made it 2-0 for number one in the Fifa rankings.

Trossard’s exquisite finish from 22 yards extended the lead before Jeremy Doku added the fourth before the break.

Praet scored the fifth, late goal from Christian Benteke, Trossard and Vanaken.

The result put Belgium at the top of Group E with seven points from three games.

The Czech Republic had started the day on the summit but fell back to second place lose to Wales.

Belgian boss Roberto Martinez could even afford the luxury of leaving star players Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku on the bench for his team’s third game in this qualifying campaign.

They weren’t required when Belgium returned to victory. Martinez’s side had a 5-0 lead in 50 minutes as they built a three-point lead at the head of the group.

Before the kick-off, the Belgian team came out with black T-shirts with the words “Football supports change” on the field Migrant workers in Qatar, Host of the next world championship.

Similar messages followed such as those from the Netherlands, Norway and Germany teams in the last days.

Belgium leads Group E by three points.
