Only Paolo di Canio (47) and Mark Noble (46) have scored more goals in the Premier League for West Ham than Michail Antonio (45).
Mikhail Antonio scored twice when West Ham came in from behind to defeat Burnley and continue their quest for a top 4 result in the Premier League.
Burnley striker Chris Wood won and converted a penalty in the first half before Antonio headed Vladimir Coufal’s cross to equalize.
Antonio returned with a hamstring injury after four weeks and poked at Said Benrahma’s curling delivery eight minutes later.
West Ham had numerous chances to extend their lead, but Burnley could have made it 2-2 when Jay Rodriguez fired a shot from close range.
It was a gratifying performance for the Hammers, who move up to fifth place in the table and are only three points behind Chelsea in fourth place.
Burnley remains nine points above the relegation zone, with four games remaining.
Benrahma impresses when Antonio pursues Burnley
Mikhail Antonio scored in West Ham’s 1-0 win over Burnley on January 16
The game was well balanced early on, but Wood’s penalty shot seemed to spark West Ham’s creativity.
Their reaction to the deficit was excellent – Antonio’s equalizer came just 154 seconds later and took advantage of a nasty cross from Coufal.
The full-back continued to use dangerous crosses while Benrahma caused Matt Lowton nightmares on the other side.
Benrahma’s great cross for Antonio’s second goal rounded off an impressive individual performance. He could have scored himself, but he selflessly decided to play for Jesse Lingard in the first half and put too much pressure on the through pass.
Manuel Lanzini shone in midfield in the absence of Declan Rice and Mark Noble, while Antonio ultimately delivered the decisive blows.
The striker should have had a hat trick too – in the second half he hit Pablo Fornals’ worn-out shot against his standing leg when, luckily, he fell at the back post just a meter from the line.
The win ensures West Ham continues to put pressure on fourth-placed Chelsea as they battle for a place in Champions League qualifiers.
More will follow.
