The Chicago Bears and quarterback Andy Dalton have agreed to a $ 10 million one-year deal with the quarterback chances of earning an additional $ 3 million in incentives, ESPN sources Adam Schefter said Tuesday.
The Bears were one of four teams Wilson’s agent had previously told Schefter the quarterback would accept a deal, the rest of them Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders. Dallas gave Dak Prescott an extension last week while New Orleans agreed to a deal on Monday to bring back Jameis Winston. The Saints also have wage cap issues that would make it difficult to absorb Wilson’s $ 19 million base salary for 2021.
Wilson has a no-trade clause that he would have to forego in order to be treated. The Seahawks would also absorb $ 39 million in dead money, all of which would count towards their salary cap for that year if they traded Wilson before June 1.
Dalton, 33, spent 2020 with the Cowboys after a nine-year run as Cincinnati Bengals‘ Starter.
Signed as a replacement, Dalton was pushed into service when Prescott suffered a slipped and compounded fracture of his right ankle in Week 5 New York Giants.
In nine starts (11 appearances), Dalton had a 4-5 record thrown for 2,170 yards and 14 touchdowns with eight interceptions. He had his best performance in a week of 16 beating the Philadelphia Eagles, throw for 377 yards and three points.
Mike Wilbon goes after Bear’s general manager Ryan Pace and demands that trainer Matt Nagy be fired for handling the QB position.
Dalton had some health issues of his own during the season and missed a game after suffering a concussion against the Washington Football team. The following week he was put on the reserve / COVID-19 list.
At the end of the season, Dalton said his hope was to find a spot as a starter, and coach Mike McCarthy and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said he showed enough to warrant consideration by the teams.
He has that chance in Chicago. Though the Bears finished the postseason with an 8-8 mark, the team at Quarterback became uninspired on both Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky opportunities were given to begin.
Trubisky is now a free agent after Chicago decided not to take his fifth year option for the former number 2 before last season. Foles is still on the team’s list.
After the Bengals choose Joe Burrow With the number 1 in the 2020 NFL draft, Dalton became dispensable and released by Cincinnati. He set a 74-66-2 record as the Bengals starter and took the franchise to the playoffs five times but won no postseason game. He was also inducted into the Pro Bowl three times.
The bears also bring back offensive lineman Germain Ifedi A source said Schefter had a one-year contract for $ 5 million. The deal includes a base salary of $ 4.25 million.
Ifedi, 26, began his career with the Seahawks before signing a one-year deal with the Bears last year.
