ANALYSIS
Sutton injured his knee on September 20, had an operation about a month later, and has been jogging as part of his rehab routine since January 14. He mentioned the possibility of limited participation in the offseason program, although it may not be cleared to practice until training camp. In the fourth and final season of his rookie contract, Sutton may have to adjust to a new quarterback as the Broncos are reportedly looking for an upgrade Drew Lock.

Past fantasy prospects
With the 40th election in the 2018 draft, Sutton got an expanded opportunity with the Broncos after Demaryius Thomas was traded in the mid-season. The results were passable given the circumstances – Sutton got 8.4 YPT, 16 catches over 20 and three catches over 40 yards on 84 targets with Case Keenum at the quarterback. At 6-3, 218, Sutton is a significant receiver with a large catch radius, making him a good candidate for red-zone looks, despite only having eight last year. He’s not particularly fast – 4.54 40 speed is about average for a receiver his size – and he lost nine passports (10.7 percent of his destinations) last year. Sutton should play a prominent role again this season, although last year’s main goal Emmanuel Sanders appears to be back after an Achilles injury and the team drafted Noah Fant in the first round. More importantly, the Broncos passing game – especially with newly signed Joe Flacco at the center – is one of the worst in the league.
With the 40th election in the draft, Sutton has a bright future, but goes into the year as the No. 3 Broncos’ best target behind stalwarts Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas. With 6-3, 218 and a large catch radius, Sutton profiles himself as a good target for the red zone – he scored 22 TDs in his last two college seasons – but his speed of 4.54-40 is only for a large receiver average. GM John Elway believes Sutton can eventually take over the team’s number 1, but aside from an injury to Thomas and Sanders, the rookie will likely have to wait at least another year.
