Covid-19: ‘Mix and match’ vaccines trial expanded and black youth ‘hit hardest’ by unemployment

Young blacks were hardest hit by unemployment during the pandemic. new research shows. Last year the UK unemployment rate for young blacks rose more than a third to 35%, according to the Resolution Foundation think tank. Compared to a rate of 24% for young people of Asian descent and a rate of 13% for young whites, both rose three percentage points. The foundation said Covid had widened the existing gaps between ethnic groups. It added that young people in general would have shouldered the brunt of job loss in the lockdown due to disproportionate work in crisis-hit sectors such as hospitality and leisure.
