Take a boat trip to see wildlife at the Daphne Major satellite volcanic cone north of Santa Cruz Island. This is an important breeding ground for blue-footed boobies. The island’s cliffs are home to sea lions, pelicans, blue-footed boobies, and tropical birds that can be seen while circumnavigating the island.

Expert-led ecological seminars add to the Galapagos cruise experience. Outside the ship, passengers can use wetsuits and snorkeling gear, and can go on excursions led by naturalists from the Galapagos National Park.

Gardner Bay Beach has sparkling white sand and is one of the best places to relax and swim in the Galapagos Islands. It is home to an important sea lion colony in the archipelago and is also a nesting site for sea turtles. Three species of Darwin’s finches and Española mockingbirds are known in the area.

Other ports are Punta Suarez, the oldest island in the Galapagos. There is an abundance of wildlife starting with a colony of sea lions welcoming the boat’s arrival. Almost the world’s population of the wave albatross lives here. Take a cliff hike with a naturalist to a towering lava crevice.

Cormorant Point, Floreana Island, was the place where Charles Darwin met the island’s governor in the first capital of the Galapagos Islands. There is a lagoon full of flamingos, barnacle conifers and a nesting area for sea turtles. When you land, watch out for the green colored sand as you explore the area.

On the same day, visit the historic Post Office Bay, founded in 1793. Outbound ships picked up mail from whalers, pirates and privateers. Visitors leave an addressed postcard in the barrel to have it delivered to their home as a souvenir.
