How do Dak Prescott’s readings compare to other quarterbacks?

Prescott didn’t quite live up to the promise of his rookie season, but respectable pass efficiency (67.7 percent, 7.4 YPA last season) combined with excellent running skills (six roaring TDs per year) make him a fascinating one Fantasy quarterback. The biggest thing for him last year was the mid-season addition of the Amari Cooper broadband receiver. In nine weeks with Cooper on offense, Prescott averaged 19.3 fantasy points and completed 71.3 percent of his passes for 7.7 YPA, 14 touchdowns (six for Cooper) and four interceptions at 274 yards per game. With or without Cooper, Prescott fought in the red zone year-round – converting just 17.1 percent of his pass attempts in the red zone into touchdowns, the 30th of 33 qualified QBs. Perhaps non-retired Jason Witten can help with that this season. In addition to Witten, Randall Cobb is new to the team and replaces Cole Beasley in the slot. Wideout Michael Gallup should also contribute more in his sophomore year. With Ezekiel Elliott in the background, defense usually focuses on stopping the run first, which may help the passing game. All in all, Prescott is offering his best opportunity for fantasy achievement yet.
After an impressive season of rookies, Prescott disappointed last year. He climbed from fourth in the league to 20th in the YPA, his degree of completion dropped five points and, worst of all, his interceptions rose from four to 13. The only thing keeping him afloat was a second year in a row with six quick touchdowns. along with an increase from 4.9 YPC to 6.3. While his decision-making was suspect, particularly in the red zone, where he threw three interceptions (2nd in the NFL) and took six sacks (3rd), Prescott didn’t get much help from the rest of the offense. The line lacked depth and suffered injuries, especially Tyron Smith; Dez Bryant caught only 52.3 percent of his targets and the wideouts averaged just 3.8 yards after the catch; and of course, Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for six games. Without Elliott, Prescott only broke 200 yards twice and threw seven interceptions as the defense took cover with no fear of the game in progress. Smith missed the first two of those games and Prescott was sacked twelve times, representing more than a third of his entire season. The Cowboys have added depth to the line this off-season, but health is probably more important. There have been big changes in passport catchers – Bryant was released and Jason Witten backed out – but there seems to be little to be upset about. The Cowboys added Allen Hurns, who hasn’t played a full season since 2014, and Tavon Austin, whose best position could be the punt returner. Reigning starter Terrance Williams underwent foot surgery and was arrested in May. In a run-first attack, Prescott could be relegated to a role as game manager, but his ability to be quick gives him at least some stability.
Prescott was handed the starting job last year when Tomo Romo was injured in the preseason, and the rookie never gave it back. He got in a great position for a young quarterback, with perhaps the best offensive line in the league protecting him – he was sacked only 25 times (23rd) and an additional 2.6 times per game – and a workhorse in rookie Ezekiel Elliott ran back, with whom he should share the game tasks. With Elliott chewing five meters in a hurry, little was asked of Prescott except to make no mistakes. And he did an excellent job of just throwing four interceptions for a rate of 0.9 INT, which was second only to Tom Bradys. His graduation percentage and YPA finished fourth in the league on a formidable debut, proving that his athleticism, arm strength, and leadership are legitimate as he led the Cowboys to the # 1 playoff seed in the NFC. Though Elliott is still on the show, Prescott is likely to see more pass attempts this year (23rd last year), and if playful receiver Dez Bryant stays healthy for the first time in three years, bigger quarterback pass numbers should mean him a shot to stay in position in the top 10 largely due to its upward trend (six TDs last year).
After a stellar career in the US state of Mississippi, Prescott was drafted in the fourth round, possibly to become the quarterback for the cowboys of the future. However, Tony Romo suffered another debilitating injury this preseason, putting the rookie in the spotlight earlier than expected. While Prescott has the size, athleticism, and arm strength that NFL teams seek, as well as proven leadership skills, his pocket consciousness was considered shaky by the time he left college and his throwing mechanics needed revision. Unfortunately he threw five touchdowns through three shows and got two additional points.
