A decade after being granted asylum in Sweden, 19-year-old Tousin Chiza is representing his adoptive country at the Eurovision Song Contest next week in Rotterdam.
Tousin – or Tusse, as he is called in Sweden – was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He fled with his aunt, siblings and cousins at the age of five to a refugee camp in Uganda and lived there for three years until he moved to Sweden at the age of eight.
“It’s a great honor for me,” he told Radio 1 Newsbeat. “It’s like the biggest thank you I can give.”
