NEW YORK – Gone Girl actress Lisa Banes died 10 days after being injured by a hit-and-run driver in New York City, police said.
Banes, 65, who was hit by a scooter or motorcycle while crossing a street on June 4, died Monday at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, a police spokesman said. The driver did not stop, the police said.
Banes has appeared in numerous television shows and films, including Gone Girl 2014 and Cocktail with Tom Cruise 1988. On television, she has starred in Nashville, Madam Secretary, Masters of Sex, and NCIS.
She has performed regularly, including Broadway appearances in the Neil Simon play Rumors in 1988, the musical High Society in 1998, and the Noel Coward play Present Laughter in 2010.
Her manager, David Williams, said Banes was hit while crossing Amsterdam Avenue on her way to Juilliard School, her alma mater.
Banes lived in Los Angeles and was married to Kathryn Kranhold, a reporter for the Center for Public Integrity.
Friends and colleagues mourned Banes on Twitter on Tuesday.
“Just broken,” tweeted singer Jill Sobule. “Lisa Banes was great, hilarious and generous – she’s always helped me through hard times. She was so loved by so many. “
Actor Seth MacFarlane said he was deeply saddened by the death of Banes, with whom he worked on his TV series The Orville.
“Her stage presence, her magnetism, her ability and her talent were only surpassed by her unwavering friendliness and grace towards all of us,” tweeted MacFarlane.
The police did not make any arrests.
