Gordon Elliott: Irish trainer banned for 12 months for dead horse photo

Leading Irish coach Gordon Elliott was banned from the sport for 12 months. The last six months have been suspended after he was found guilty of discrediting the sport.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) imposed the penalty on Friday.

What followed was the appearance of a photo showing him on his phone on a dead horse.

The 43-year-old, one of the most famous faces in racing, apologized and said it was a “moment of madness”.

Elliott seems almost certain that he will miss the Cheltenham Festival later this month and the Grand National Festival next month as the British Horseracing Authority is expected to return the IHRB sanctions.

More will follow.
