Archer took 41 wickets in its first 12 tests
James Anderson, Jofra Archer and Dom Bess will miss the second test for England against India in Chennai.
On Thursday, it was confirmed that Archer will be out with an elbow injury while Bess was dropped.
Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Ben Foakes, Olly Stone and Chris Woakes join the 12-man squad.
Fast bowler Mark Wood rests until the third test.
Explaining the decision to ditch the 23-year-old Bess, whose performances have been inconsistent this year, Captain Joe Root explained: “I’m sure he will come back with questions and I’m sure he will be disappointed but that’s it.” They expect people who really care and want to be out there all the time performing for their country.
“He has a very good attitude. He is just beginning his career and will use this as an opportunity to get better.”
Archer, who made his Test debut against Australia in 2019, took three wickets in the first Test triumph but had an uncomfortable elbow.
He suffered a slight stress fracture in his right elbow last year However, the current problem has nothing to do with previous issues and there is hope that treatment will resolve the condition quickly so that the Sussex Paceman can return in time for the third test in Ahmedabad starting Feb.24.
His injury marks the second belated setback England has suffered on the tour. Zak Crawley fell on a marble floor and injured his wrist before the first test.
