MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A month before returning to the ring for an exhibition match at age 44, Floyd Mayweather argued for the bout at the press conference.
The Boxing Hall of Famer will meet Logan Paul in a pay-per-view event at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida on June 6th. On Thursday, he met Paul’s brother Jake, who started the scuffle when he took Mayweather’s hat.
Apparently outraged that Mayweather called both Paul’s “fake fighters” and offered to take them both on the same night, Jake Paul confronted the former champion. Jake Paul reached for Mayweather’s white baseball cap and “Safety” jumped between the two as Mayweather walked towards him.
“I don’t have to talk about what I’m going to do. The world knows what I’m going to do,” Mayweather said. “I’m ready to fight both of them on the same night.”
Speak with The athlete Later on Thursday, Mayweather said the scuffle was sparked by a lack of respect from Paul.
“I don’t want to be disregarded,” he said. “You can’t touch me anymore and you can’t respect me.”
But Mayweather also admitted that pre-fight hype never hurts.
“Jake Paul wanted some attention and he got it. And so did I.” he said.
Meanwhile, Paul continued to enjoy it and posted a video on Instagram in which he had “Gotcha Hat” tattooed on his lower leg.
Mayweather had a 50-0 record with 27 KOs during a career that saw him win world titles in five weight classes for over three decades. Opponents he defeated included Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya before retiring in 2015 – despite stopping mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor in 2017.
In the 26-year-old Logan Paul, Mayweather meets a star created on the Internet. Followed by more than 20 million on YouTube, Paul started a six-round fight against his YouTube star KSI in 2019. Paul, a retired high school wrestler, will have a 6 inch height advantage over Mayweather, but he’s obviously giving away a lot of experience and mastery in the ring.
“Logan Paul is huge on YouTube and has a huge following. He’s a big guy, a tough guy,” Mayweather said. “It’s just fun. It’s entertaining. It’s all about entertainment and of course when he’s on social media, he’s entertaining people all the time.”
It is uncertain whether Mayweather also described the argument about the press conference as entertaining.
“I just feel inspired,” said Logan Paul. “I want to hit that [stuffing] out of him. I really do. This fight means so much to me. To my fans. To my family. To everyone who watched and thought there was nothing they could do in life. That is the energy with which I go in. Everyone says it’s impossible. Well, there was no way I could get this fight. “
On the undercard are the heavyweight Jean Pascal against Badou Jack and the super welterweight Jarrett Hurd against Luis Arias. Former NFL recipient Chad Johnson is set to make his boxing debut.
The pay-per-view program will be broadcast on Showtime.
