How do the Jamison Crowder readings compare to other wide-angle receivers?

This section compares his draft training metrics with players in the same position. The bar represents the player’s percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway through, then the player falls within the 50th percentile for that metric and is considered average.

After four years in Washington, Crowder signed a three-year contract for $ 28.5 million in New York, including a $ 17 million guarantee. That ensures he plays a key role as the team’s primary slot man, ousting the bigger, faster Quincy Enunwa who is now pulling out. At 5-9,177, Crowder is a typical slot receiver – small, seedy, and incredibly fast. He has been relatively efficient in this role, averaging 8.0 YPT over the past four years. Crowder seems to play faster than his timed speed of 4.56, but he rarely runs downfield routes or plays in the red zone. Jets coach Adam Gase said he expected Crowder to catch 70-90 passes, which would be a career high, but it’s not that far-fetched given his contract and skills. Quarterback Sam Darnold should do better in Year 2, but Enunwa, Robby Anderson, new year old Le’Veon Bell and Chris Herndon will see a lot of work in the passing game too.

Crowder has been the primary slot recipient for the Redskins since its rookie season. He has mostly caught short passes and has rarely played big games – five catches over 40 yards out of 280 career goals. At 5-9, 177, Crowder is faster than fast (4.56 40), and that makes him a tough cover in short areas but less of a threat in the field or in the red zone. The Redskins split from Terrelle Pryor and Ryan Grant this offseason, but Paul Richardson is joining the game and it’s possible Jordan Reed will play more than six games and Chris Thompson will play more than ten this year. That said, Crowder is de facto the team’s # 1 target unless third year Josh Doctson can make a big jump. Crowder has to adjust to a new quarterback in Alex Smith, and while that is likely a downgrade for the entire offense, it should least affect Crowder’s short game.

Crowder has been a top slot recipient and returner last year, starting 2017 as the only seasoned incumbent among Washington recipients. However, the Redskins brought in sports freak Terrelle Pryor and brought back last year’s first-class classic Josh Doctson from an Achilles injury. Additionally, TE Jordan Reed has been the team’s target, especially in the red zone when healthy. Even so, the 5-8, 182-pound crowder has to work the short and middle sections of the field and uses his exceptional speed and run distance to open up. Crowder – 4.56 40 – is not fast, but he has excellent visibility and is dangerous in space. While Crowder saw 17 red zone looks last year, expect these to now sink in the crease with the massive Pryor and 6-2 Doctson. However, there is a good chance that Crowder will populate their stats with a return TD.

The 2015 quarter-finalist had a productive rookie season with 59 passes for 604 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to his five catches for 109 yards and a week 17 touchdown against the Cowboys, Crowder’s game was a bit stronger in the first half of the season when DeSean Jackson was injured and he was placed in the second receiver role. While Crowder starts 2016 to build on his promising first campaign, he will have to compete with starters Pierre Garcon and Jackson as well as Josh Doctson from the first round in 2016 for looks.

The 2015 Duke quarter-finalist appears to be on track to replace Andre Roberts as Washington’s top punt returnee. In addition, he could end up taking on kick-return tasks. Crowder could work out as a rookie fantasy utility if he can oust Roberts as the team’s top slot. GM Scot McCloughan has suggested that Crowder might at some point be up to the task thanks to the “excellent” runnability of the 5-foot-8, 185-pounder. Roberts’ pro experience presumably allows him to keep an initial head start for the mission, with DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon anchored as the team’s top underdogs.
