Joe Launchbury: Wasps lock to miss British and Irish Lions tour with knee injury

Wasp Captain Joe Launchbury was part of the English squad that made it to the 2019 World Cup final

Wasp Castle Joe Launchbury will miss the UK and Irish Lions tour of South Africa this summer following a serious knee injury.

The English striker Launchbury has to undergo surgery because of the injury.

He has 69 caps for his country, but missed this year’s Six Nations with one Stress fracture of his leg.

Launchbury got the tip on May 6th to form Warren Gatland’s Lions roster, having previously missed the 2013 and 2017 tours.

Sunday’s game at Ricoh Arena was his fifth straight appearance after returning from his previous injury, but he had to be helped off the field after twisting his left knee while attempting to attack international teammate Jonathan Joseph.

No time frame has been given for Launchbury’s recovery, but it is unlikely that he will return until next year.
