ANALYSIS
Smith and Hunter Henry Profile as the top free agent TEs this off-season, likely with deals worth around $ 10 million per season. Smith is a reliable blocker and receiver who excels after the catch, although his route tree in Tennessee mainly focused on the homes and short intersection routes. A change of scene could offer the opportunity to expand your role as a passport catcher.

Past fantasy prospects

Smith was drafted in the third round of the 2017 draft as a highly athletic finish. He combined that with a strong college production in the Florida Atlantic. A pro breakout seemed possible in 2018 after Delanie Walker (Knuckle) was out in the campaign’s first game for the season, but Smith barely built on his rookie season numbers, scoring 20 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns. With Walker expected to be healthy again for the 2019 season and with the Titans adding weapons to their temporary attack this off-season, Smith will face an uphill battle to break free despite his untapped advantage.

Ironically, Smith Delanie Walker drew comparisons during the pre-draft process in 2017 and was ultimately selected by Tennessee in the third round of draft to play second fiddle to the 13-year-old vet. The product from the US state of Florida had a constant playing time in this role and was successful as both a blocker and a receiver. With Walker still at the top of the depth map, there doesn’t seem to be much room for growth for Smith in 2018. That could change as Walker tackles injuries, but Smith’s mentor hasn’t missed more than one game in his last seven seasons.

Smith is expected to be number 2 behind Delanie Walker from the start as Anthony Fasano’s exit only leaves the 2014 round two, Jace Amaro, and blocking specialist Phillip Supernaw behind to challenge him for that spot. The Florida International rookie third-placed is already a more complete player than either of these options and is positioned to make an instant impression on a team that used multiple tight-end formations on an above-average clip last season.
