McDonald’s changed the breakfast game forever with the introduction of the Egg McMuffin – the first breakfast sandwich for fast-service restaurants. Now, almost 50 years after its debut, this fan favorite is getting the celebration it deserves: its own national day. McDonald’s declared Monday, March 2nd, National Egg McMuffin Day.
The brand invites fans to celebrate by receiving a free, freshly made egg McMuffin at participating McDonald’s across the country. Customers just need to download our mobile app to redeem this offer on Monday, March 2nd, between 6:00 am and 10:30 am local time.
“As we give the McMuffin Egg its moment, we really honor our breakfast fans who woke up to McDonald’s breakfast for nearly 50 years. And we just thought, “Hey, why not make March 2nd National Egg McMuffin Day?” Said David Tovar, vice president of US communications. “We’re always looking for new ways to show our fans love and remind them wherever they are. At McDonald’s, a delicious and convenient breakfast is just around the corner.”
The iconic Egg McMuffin was first made in early 1971 by Herb Peterson, an owner and operator in Santa Barbara, California. What started out as an attempt to make Eggs Benedict became a breakfast icon: the Egg McMuffin. Herb is also credited with making the Teflon rings to give the eggs their perfectly rounded shape – a tool that has inspired other brands around the world. The McMuffin Egg is an excellent source of protein. McDonald’s puts a freshly cracked Grade A egg on top of a toasted English muffin with real butter and adds lean Canadian bacon and melting American cheese.
