Jack Draper, ranked 316 in the world, received a wild card for the Miami Open
British teenager Jack Draper was forced to retire from his ATP Tour debut after struggling with the heat and collapsing on the pitch at the Miami Open.
The 19-year-old draper called on the doctor towards the end of the first set of his game against Kazakhs Mikhail Kukushkin.
The Briton, who was 6-5 back on serve in hot conditions, was checked by the paramedic before deciding to proceed.
Draper fell in place while chasing a return to set point, but was put on with an ice pack on his neck a moment later.
Medics quickly took care of the London-born player and he was able to leave the field.
Johanna Konta, number 17 of the British women, will play against Poland’s Magda Linette in her opening game in Miami on Thursday, while Liam Broady will also play against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
