NBA: Miami Heat beat Boston Celtics to secure play-off spot, Los Angeles Lakers win

Bam Adebayo scored 22 points for the Miami Heat against the Boston Celtics

The Miami Heat secured a play-off spot with a 129-121 win at the Boston Celtics, which almost condemned the Celtics to the new play-in tournament.

Miami’s 10th win in 13 games put them in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

In the meantime, the Los Angeles Lakers kept their play-off hopes alive with a 101-99 win over the New York Knicks.

After LeBron James was absent again due to injury, Talen Horton-Tucker stepped up and hit the match winner with three pointers.

The Lakers are confident that James, who has missed his last five games with an ankle injury, can play the Houston Rockets at home on Wednesday.

The result leaves the seventh-placed Lakers on a course for the Dallas Mavericks, who lost 133-104 to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The six best teams from each conference qualify directly for the play-offs, while teams that occupy seventh to tenth place fight for two more play-off places via the team new play-in tournamentexternal link.

The Chicago Bulls are currently on track to completely miss the postseason. After a defeat to the Brooklyn Nets by 115: 107, they are in eleventh place.

Elsewhere, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Charlotte Hornets 117-112, the Minnesota Timberwolves a 119-100 win over the Detroit Pistons, and the LA Clippers a 115-96 win over the Toronto Raptors.

The Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings were also victorious as the last week of the regular season continues.
