Norway’s starting XI and substitutes wore T-shirts that read “Human rights on and off the pitch” shortly before kick-off
Before their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar, the Norwegian players wore t-shirts that read “Human rights on and off the field” to demonstrate their support for migrant workers in Qatar.
Captain Martin Odegaard had said before the game, the players planned to do something to show their feelings.
The players also wore “Respect On and Off the Field” T-shirts as they warmed up in Marbella.
The World Cup is slated to begin in Qatar on November 21 next year.
Norway won the start of Group G 3-0.
Last month, a report in the Guardian 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar since the 2010 World Cup was awarded.
The country suggested controversially competing bids from the United States, Australia, South Korea and Japan to host the tournament. Hundreds of thousands of construction workers came from overseas.
Qatar has built seven new stadiums to host the tournament, which has been rescheduled for winter to avoid the country’s extreme summer heat.
Erling Braut Haaland and his Norwegian teammates wore the t-shirts before kick-off against Gibraltar
