ANALYSIS
Jones had surgery to treat a broken finger in mid-December, and he will now undergo another procedure to fully address the problem. Returning from his initial surgery, he was able to play through his finger injury, although he later missed the time and ended up playing second fiddle due to COVID-19 logs and a quad bruise Leonard Fournette during the playoff run in Tampa Bay. Jones should stay on track for the preliminary start of off-season practice and Fournette should be on track to become a full free agent in March. Ke’Shawn Vaughn could end up being his main competition for the No. 1 backfield spot.

Past fantasy prospects

Jones, who was eliminated from USC in the second round, did not come onto the field until week 4 of his rookie season and got no carry after week 13, as coach Dirk Koetter Peyton Barber led back after a week as a playoff place was unreachable. Jones ‘final numbers were miserable – not surprising given his inconsistent workload – but new coach Bruce Arians’ offense could be just what it takes to reach his potential, especially after the team gave him a vote of confidence by giving him the Design did not add any competition. Jones showed tremendous speed, acceleration and evasiveness in college. On a more dynamic scheme, and with a coach willing to give him a chance, he could be heading for a breakout campaign. Arians, on the other hand, are likely planning a pass-first crime, and neither Jones nor Barber have shown much potential as a reception weapon. It’s everyone’s guess how the snaps are ultimately broken down in that backfield, with Andre Ellington possibly also being in the mix.

The Buccaneers eventually gave up on the idea that Doug Martin would be a consistent backfield weapon for them last year, and the front office wasted no time trying to find his replacement and picked Jones with the 38th overall win on this year’s draft. At 5: 11: 205, Jones showed blazing pace throughout his college career at USC and probably would have done much better than his 4.65-40 time out of the combine if he hadn’t strained his Achilles tendon while running (he improved to 4.48 at its per day). Jones has a fluid, upright running style and it doesn’t take long to get to his top speed. In the open field, he shows evasiveness and the ability to change direction in the twinkling of an eye. It wasn’t used much as a receiver by the Trojans, but it has shown some natural ability in this area as well. Tampa has many veteran options behind it on the depth map and concerns about its size could limit his touches out of the gate, but Jones wants every chance to prove he can be a differentiator behind the scenes.
