Dame Vera Baird – the Victims Commissioner for England and Wales – said the focus should now be on women’s experiences of sexual harassment and violence rather than how police dealt with the Saturday vigil. Dame Vera told the BBC: “Let’s get back to the subject, that is why it is this number of women when this terrible event [Sarah Everard’s death] performed, started talking about their horrific experiences. “They clearly view the streets as lawless for women when it comes to male behavior. Men seem to be telling us they can do what they want and say what they want and no one is going to take action.”
