Taylor Heinicke

Questionable
Injury shoulder – AC joint
2021 Pass / Rush projections
Signed a two-year deal with Washington for $ 8.75 million in February 2021.

ANALYSIS
Heinicke signed with the team in December and started in the wildcard round of the playoffs instead of an injured person Alex Smith (Calf). His solid performance (352 yards total, two touchdowns) on that loss to Tampa Bay seemed to convince Washington brass that Heinicke could be a solid support for the next couple of years. He will turn 28 in April and his expansion is unlikely to prevent the team from seeking upgrades at the top of the depth map. Heinicke suffered an AC joint sprain during the playoff game but should be ready for the offseason program (if any) and training camp.

Past fantasy prospects
After playing in just one game in the first three seasons, Heinicke made brief appearances five times last year before Cam Newton was closed for the final two games. This opened the door for Heinicke to start his first career in Week 16 when he completed 33 of 53 passes for 274 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. However, he suffered an elbow injury in that competition and was shortly thereafter put on IR, which limited his chance. The 26-year-old was then operated on, but returned to the Panthers this off-season, hoping to get a roster seat again. After the selection of Will Grier from the third round, however, the chances do not seem to speak for Heinicke.
Heinicke is in a close battle for the Panthers No. 2 quarterback job with Garrett Gilbert after playing a game with the Texans in 2017.
Heinicke will try to get a spot as No. 3 quarterback behind starter Sam Bradford and backup Case Keenum. His status on the active roster may depend on whether Teddy Bridgewater can at some point return from a serious knee injury.
Heinicke enters the 2016 season on the list of active / non-football injuries after seriously injuring his left lower leg in an accident while breaking into his own home. He’s expected to be back in the regular season a few months, but he won’t be able to support quarterback Teddy Bridgewater for at least the first few weeks. Veteran Shaun Hill aims to secure second place on the quarterback depth map, but Heinicke has the knack of taking the offensive one day if Bridgewater is injured. The Vikings also have Wisconsin rookie Joel Stave who is likely to join the roster first due to Heinicke’s injury. Heinicke shouldn’t be on anyone’s fantasy radar at this point, but he could be a useful backup option for the Vikings upon his return.
The bare free agent is a long way to get the third quarterback job.
