Team GB will not receive medal targets for the Tokyo Olympics, the British Olympic Association says.
Chef de Mission Mark England says the Covid-19 pandemic has made it too difficult to predict athletes’ competitiveness.
“Competitive data about our position against our main competitors around the world is really not there,” he said.
UK Sport, which sponsors British Olympians, is unlikely to set any goals either.
“We only have fragments of times and qualifying times. The past 12 months have given young athletes the opportunity to get stronger and compete,” added England.
In February 2018, UK Sport set a target range of 54 to 92 medals.
Great Britain won 67 medals, including 27 gold medals, at the 2016 Rio Olympics, finishing second in the medal table behind the USA.
With 65 medals, including 29 gold medals, they took third place in London in 2012.
For the past several years, UK Sport has allocated funds to athletes and sports based on the achievement of certain Olympic goals.
England said Team GB would bring about 375 athletes to Tokyo – nine more than to Rio.
