Twins beat Red Sox 7-6 in Spring Training opener

The Minnesota Twins defeated the Boston Red Sox in Sunday’s spring training opener.

Boston scored one run in the second inning, but Minnesota blew up for five runs in the lower half of the frame.

Max Kepler hit a two-run single, Jorge Polanco pulled a base-laden walk, and Miguel Sano made it 5-1 with a two-run double.

The Red Sox added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to make it 6-5, but Minnesota countered in the bottom half of the sixth innings.

Gilberto Celestino scored a throwing error and Kyle Garlick hit a sacrificial fly that put the twins 7-6 ahead.

Minnesota will be back in action on Monday at 12:05 pm with a street fight against the Tampa Bay Rays.
