SALZSTADT (AP) – Donovan Mitchell scored 22 points and the Utah Jazz Set an NBA record for 3-pointers in one half in a 137-91 win over the shorthanded Orlando Magic On Saturday evening, they extended their franchise Best Home winning streak to 22.
Jazz scored 18 3-point points in the first half, setting an NBA record in a season in which Jazz wiped out all previous long-distance franchise shots.
Mitchell made 6 of 7 from away to help Utah open a 78-40 advantage at break.
Joe Ingles and Bojan Bogdanovic Everyone had 17 for jazz. No player in Utah logged more than 24 minutes, while all 13 players in uniform scored at least five points.
Jazz did it all without Mike Conley, Utah’s usual starting point guardian who usually plays one side of the back-to-back games to rest his right achilles tendon.
Wendell Carter Jr.. had 19 points and 12 rebounds to perform the magic that only made 2 out of 23 from a great distance. Chuma Okeke had 16.
The Magic actually had more players on its injured list (nine) than it had available to play (eight). Terrence Ross was a late addition to the line-up despite a sore ankle, scoring 12 points.
The Magic had actually won the last two games after overhauling their team before close of trading last week. Orlando sent away veteran props Nikola Vucevic, Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordonwho have all been together with magic for more than seven seasons.
With all the injuries and a five game road trip, the Magic had little time to collaborate and make connections. And it showed in spades against the top team in the NBA.
Struggling with his shot, Jordan Clarkson scored 11 of his 15 points in the first quarter when the Jazz was led by up to 20.
The lead initially rose to 46 when Bogdanovic scored a 3 to 92-46 in the third quarter.
Though Utah dipped in reserves in the final quarter, it finished 26 for 54 on 3s. It was 14th place for the jazz with more than 20 3-handers, which is currently the second all-time place for a single season.
Utah set a franchise record with its 39th game in a row, scoring 100 points. The previous high water mark of 38 Straight was released in the 1983-84 season.
The jazz pick-and-roll from all angles and the easy penetration of dribbles made for a multitude of wide-open perimeter shots as the Magic consistently lagged two steps behind Utah’s movements.
