Welsh defender Tom Lockyer (left) began his career in Cardiff City
Tom Lockyer was named to the Welsh Euro 2020 squad after James Lawrence was forced to retire due to an unspecified injury.
St. Pauli defender Lawrence, 28, was inducted when the 26-man squad was named on Sunday night.
But he was ruled out less than 24 hours later and will be replaced by Luton’s center-back Lockyer.
The 26-year-old Lockyer has won 13 caps and was viewed by some as unfortunate for missing out on the original squad.
He made 23 Luton appearances in 2020-21 and played three times for Wales.
He hasn’t played since February and was disqualified for the April season after undergoing ankle surgery.
